Ответ на пост «Молюсь, чтобы вы этого никогда не увидели»
Решил перевести стихотворение на английский, ради просвещения пары-тройки знакомых (живу в Америке), может кому тоже пригодится...

Vladimir Vyssotsky, "Mass Graves", 1964
We don't put crosses on mass graves,
And widows don't come to weep there,
But someone brings flower bouquets,
And keeps the Eternal Flame alight with care.
The ground here, once so broken and torn up,
Is now at peace, with granite slabs becalmed.
There's no individual fate in this place,
All destinies merged, as one they become.
Within the Eternal Flame, you may see
Engulfed by fire, a blown-up tank,
And burnt Russian homes,
And burning Smolensk,
And burning Reichstag...
And burning the brightest - a soldier's heart.
No, widows don't weep at mass graves -
Much stronger, the people that visit.
We don't put a cross atop a mass grave,
But does that make it... any easier?
