Great little campsite if your looking to get away from all the noise and craziness in town. Its actually a bit farther up the mountain side than the actual "Ponds" that it is named after, but there is a direct and well kept trail leading from this campsite to them. Very excited to go here as I had been saving up for about 8 months so I could take my girlfriend, Tina, of 6 years here to propose for the 3rd time. Unfortunately, she said no again, but it was still a lot of fun. The hike back was a little awkward so we ended up detouring to sandy point where we met some very interesting folks. (check out the reviews on that too...) I'm kind of glad she said no though, because we were then both able to indulge a little at the Tiki cottages. She experienced 7 partners that night while I watched thru the poorly done thatch work walls. (Traditional carpentry for this island) It was cool I guess. She has always said she wanted me to save my first time for our wedding night. The worst part is that at the end of the night we owed the bartender $934 for drinks and cottage rentals which were $50 per half hour! Since Tina accidentally had left her wallet at the guest house on the other side of the island, she suggested we offer them the ring as payment. A little bit of bartering later and they had my custom made tiffany & co. ring, but offered her free cottage rentals if we come back for our anniversary. Financially I lost out a little bit, but I didn't want her to know how much I had spent on the ring. Anyway, she was feeling a little queasy the next day and wanted to go home, but our ship wasn't scheduled to sail out for another 3. Luckily for us, a very wealthy man named Khaled from Dubai, who was visiting Tristan on his bachelor party with about a dozen friends, was departing that very morning headed straight thru to Miami. He offered to take us both back to the states on his gorgeous 100' yacht, but after getting the tour of the multiple luxury suites inside, Tina insisted that we'd be taking advantage of his generosity if we both went and made him tote our dirty luggage. Plus she reminded me of the checkers tournament I had already committed to with the otherwise lonely captain of the RMS ship, which we had scheduled for the long ride back. To put me at ease, Khaled and his friends gave me their word that they would make sure Tina got home safe. I'm glad we have such nice people in this world... Fast forward to today... I've been back home now for 2 weeks now (her for 5) and we find out today that she is pregnant. I understand accidents happen, and of course were still together, which is why I agreed to help her with the baby. What kind of person would I be if I left her for a silly one time mistake. Sure, I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish it was mine though.... Next week I'm planning on getting a third job delivering pizzas in the evening to be able to support us all. She has been on "bed rest" since we found out and also had to quit her job. Now, since I work so much, my younger brother and his college friends have offered to come by a few times per day to check up on her and keep her company. Thanks guys! Cant wait to come back to Tristan though. The Ponds campsite truly is gorgeous! Lots of great memories there. 10/10 highly recommend.
