I stared, she was with a friend, they laughed. I thought they were laughing at me, she later told me it was because they thought I was cute.
It was the following summer break when I saw her again, we passed on the street both riding bicycles, there were glances.
When I finally got to high school 2 years later, I caught up with her again, and we connected. There was no doubt we were meant to be together. "When we were lovers, I loved you with all my heart".
They all told us we were too young. We had to fight to be together. We proved them all wrong. We have beautiful children, and in turn beautiful grandchildren.
We were supposed to grow old together, and I suppose we did, but not old enough. In March 2020 she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, she passed away on June 30, 2020, after almost 46 years together. I miss her immensely. I am still in love with her.
I miss my friend, my lover, my wife. Now grief is the only friend I can count on to stop by, and grief comes unannounced, grief comes when you least expect it. I'm not alone in this, I know that. I know that this is part of life, but the heart feels what it wants to.
To all of you out there suffering loss, I am so sorry, I know what your pain is. To those who still have their loved ones, cherish every moment together. For those of you who have read this far, just thanks for listening.
