Прошлым летом я посетила маленький город на западном побережье, и мне понравились его тихие улицы и старый деревянный пирс. В первый день я стояла на перекрёстке возле парковки и смотрела на карту, но не понимала, как пройти к почте. Я спросила женщину: «Не могли бы вы сказать мне дорогу к…?», и она улыбнулась и сказала: «Идите прямо до светофора, затем поверните налево на перекрёстке, а после этого поверните направо возле туристического агентства; почта находится напротив банка». Я запомнила дорогу, потому что хотела быть точной, но всё равно ошиблась и пошла на север вместо юга. Я нервничала? Да, нервничала, но не сдалась. Я снова спросила у прохожего, и он объяснил, что правильный путь - идти на восток две минуты, а затем вдоль побережья, пока я не увижу пирс. В этот раз я последовала его совету и наконец нашла почту.

Last summer I visited a small town on the west coast, and I loved its quiet streets and old wooden pier. On my first day I stood at a crossroads near the parking lot and looked at the map, but I couldn’t understand how to get to the post office. I asked a woman, “Can you tell me the way to…?” and she smiled and said, “Go straight ahead to the traffic lights, then turn left at the intersection, and after that turn right near the travel agent; the post office is opposite the bank.” I remembered the directions because I wanted to be correct, but I still made a mistake and went north instead of south. Was I nervous? Yes, I was, but I didn’t give up. I asked a stranger again, and he explained that the right way was to go east for two minutes and then along the coast until I saw the pier. This time I followed his advice and finally found the post office.
