English News: Not My King!
On the same day as thousands of people watched the new King's coronation in Princes Street Gardens, the Our Republic demonstration was place on Calton Hill, only a half-mile away. Scottish Green co-leader Lorna Slater, who attended, called the monarchy "outdated" and "undemocratic."
After protesters were detained in London prior to the start of the coronation ceremony, the Met Police detained a number of persons on suspicion of disturbing the peace. While Hibs supporters were chanting "you can shove the coronation up your a***" during the St. Mirren game, they also carried a banner against the monarchy. Thousands also participated in a protest in Glasgow that called for Scottish independence.
